I am 29…arrgghhh, not long enough till 30!! I ve been kiting for 18 months, learnt the basics in WA last year and have loved it ever since. I m based in Snowdonia, North Wales, what could be better than living in a national park with stunning beaches only a short drive away….although having said that I haven t spent a whole winter in Wales, or in Britain in a very long time!!
I ve been competing on the BKSA Ams circuit this year, I really enjoy it, especially when we get a windy event, I always ride best when I m lit on my 7!!
My best results include 1st place in BKSA Amateur Freestyle at Swansea and Blackpool 2009, 1st Big Air / Best trick Langebaan Lagoon festival 2009. Personally I think my biggest achievement was learning to deal with Cape Town waves last winter, they scared me when I first got there but by the end I was loving the monster down winders and playing in the waves. By best trick at the moment is an s-bend, not quite consistent, but getting there and crashing less spectacularly every session!! I m starting to go for f16 s but its not quite coming together just yet!!
I kite mainly at West shore, Llandudno or Rhosneigr on Anglesey, I love both spots, on neaps, mid tide there s a fab flat water lagoon at West Shore, perfect for freestyle. While Rhossy is a bit more varied and great fun. My favourite spot though has to be Witsand, Breede River, South Africa, on the east coast…where the biggest bull shark ever caught was tagged earlier this year!! If you can block the shark thing out of your head it s an incredible spot.
